The KYC rejection email usually includes the reason for rejection, but sometimes it can be vague. This article provides targeted solutions based on 6 categories of reasons. 1. 6 Types of Rejection Reasons
| Reason | Solution |
|---|---|
| Document Photo Blurry / Glare | Retake clearly |
| Name / Birthday Inconsistent | Verify entered info |
| Liveness Detection Failed | Redo following instructions |
| Underage | Must be 18+ |
| Region Restricted | Switch to a compliant region |
| Prior Account Linked | Recover old account or contact support |
2. Document Photo Issues
Glare
Plastic-laminated documents are prone to glare. Tilt the document 5-10° to avoid direct light sources, or change the direction of the light.
Blurry
Caused by shaky hands or incomplete focus. Using a tripod is the most stable method; if you don't have one, rest your hands on a table.
Missing Corners
The entire document must be within the frame. The system detects this automatically, but algorithms sometimes misjudge. When retaking, leave a 5% margin between the document and the frame edges.
Rear vs. Front Camera
Rear cameras have higher pixel counts. It is recommended to use the rear camera for document photos and the front camera for liveness detection.
3. Name / Information Consistency
Name
The name entered during KYC must match the one on the document letter by letter:
- Chinese names (for Mainland China KYC)
- Pinyin names (for Passport KYC)
- Middle names / Multiple names (in the exact order as the document)
Birthday
Pay attention to the format: YYYY-MM-DD vs DD/MM/YYYY can be easily confused. Look closely at the selection panel.
Document Number
For an 18-digit ID card number, commonly misread characters include:
- The number 0 and the letter O
- The number 1 and the letter I
- The number 8 and the letter B (rare but happens)
4. Liveness Detection Issues
Symptoms
After blinking / turning your head / opening your mouth as instructed, the system prompts "Failed."
Solutions
- Take off your glasses
- Take off your mask
- Turn off beauty filters (the front camera's default beauty mode distorts facial features)
- Ensure even lighting (avoid strong unilateral light)
- Make actions slow and distinct
5. Underage
Binance requires users to be at least 18 years old. If the system recognizes the birthday as < 18:
- Check if the birthday you entered for KYC is correct
- Ensure the birthday on the document matches what you entered
Minors cannot register, as asset risks are too high.
6. Region Restrictions
Binance does not accept KYC from certain regions (sanctioned countries, compliance blacklists). This includes but is not limited to:
- OFAC sanctioned regions
- Certain African countries
- Certain Middle Eastern regions
If you are not in these regions but are rejected, submit an appeal to customer support with proof of residence (e.g., utility bills).
7. Account Linkage
You Previously Had a Binance Account
During KYC, the system identifies that your ID document has already been used by another account:
- Recover the old account (if you forgot it): Account → Recover → Search via Email
- Contact support if the old account cannot be recovered
Someone Else Registered with Your Identity
If you have never registered before but are told "this document has already been used," your identity was stolen. Submit an appeal through the "recovery" process.
8. Customer Support Appeal
If you are still rejected after troubleshooting the above, contact customer support:
- Subject: KYC Appeal
- Attach a screenshot of the rejection email
- Attach your proof of identity
- Describe the specific suspected reason for rejection
You will usually receive a reply within 1-3 business days.
FAQ
Q1: Is there a limit on the number of rejection retries? Usually 5-10 times per day; exceeding this triggers a 24-hour cooldown.
Q2: How long until I can retry after a rejection? You can resubmit immediately, but it's best to identify the cause first.
Q3: How long does "Under Review" by customer service take? Usually 1-3 business days. Complex cases can take up to 7 days.
Q4: What if I am permanently rejected? In extremely rare cases (compliance blacklists, fraud suspicions), a permanent rejection occurs. You can reapply from a supported region, but the identity verification process will be stricter.
