What if Binance KYC camera doesn't recognize? Camera permissions and liveness check

Common reasons for Binance KYC ID upload or liveness check failures: camera permissions, lighting, ID wear and tear, liveness movements, App version, with step-by-step troubleshooting suggestions.

Repeated failures when taking photos of your ID or during the liveness check for Binance KYC are common issues. This article provides solutions based on different scenarios. Download entry: Binance official website, mobile Binance official App, and if you haven't installed the App on iOS, see the iOS installation tutorial.

1. Common Reasons for KYC Failures

Failure PointReasonSolution
Camera won't openPermission not grantedGrant permission in settings
ID photo is blurryLighting / ShakingUse white light and hold steady
ID not recognizedGlare / Wear and tearChange lighting / Try both sides
Liveness check failedMoving too fast / Exaggerated expressionsPerform the requested movements slowly
Stuck after submissionNetwork / Backend issueWait a few hours and try again

2. Camera Permissions

Android

Settings → Apps → Binance → Permissions → Camera → Allow. "Allow all the time" or "Allow only while using the app" both work, as KYC only needs it once.

iOS

Settings → Binance → Camera → Turn On. If you don't see this toggle, it means you previously denied the permission—uninstalling and reinstalling the App will prompt you again.

3. ID Photography Tips

Lighting

White LED light is best, followed by natural light. Avoid:

  • Warm yellow light (distorts the color of the ID)
  • Strong direct sunlight (causes glare)
  • Light source behind you (underexposes the ID)

Ideal environment: a white tabletop + soft overhead lighting.

Focusing

Move your phone slowly to let the camera auto-focus. Wait until you hear the focus confirmation sound before taking the photo.

Fully Inside the Frame

All four edges of the ID must be inside the frame, and none of the corners should stick out. The system will automatically detect the edges and prompt you.

Glare

The plastic laminated surface of an ID is prone to glare. Tilt the ID by 5-10° to avoid reflections from the light source.

4. Liveness Check Tips

1. Take Off Your Glasses

Glare from glasses can cause eye recognition to fail. Take them off first, and put them back on after you pass.

2. Range of Movement

When prompted to blink / open your mouth / turn your head, do not make exaggerated movements:

  • Blink: slowly close your eyes for 1 second, then open them
  • Open mouth: open and close naturally, don't exaggerate
  • Turn head: turn left and right by 10-15°; turning too much will take you out of the frame

3. Lighting

Ensure even frontal lighting on your face. Backlighting (having a window behind you) or strong shadows will cause failures.

4. Distance

Keep the phone 30-40cm away from your face. Too close and your face will be out of the frame; too far and your face will be too small to recognize.

5. Keep Your Hands Steady

It's best to use a phone stand. Handheld shaking can easily cause the continuous frames of the liveness check to misalign.

5. Worn / Old IDs

IDs that have been used for many years will suffer from wear and tear, increasing the difficulty of recognition. Suggestions:

  1. Try the other side (try both the front and the back)
  2. Switch to a brighter environment
  3. Use a different device (phones with higher megapixel cameras are easier to recognize)

If it really won't pass:

  • Contact Binance customer service for a manual review
  • Provide alternative supporting documents (such as a passport or a regional travel permit)

6. Limits on KYC Failure Attempts

Binance limits the number of daily KYC failure attempts (around 5-10 times). After multiple failures, the system will enter a 24-hour cooldown period. Do not try frantically at this point; wait for the cooldown to end before trying again.

7. Special Scenarios

Dual Citizenship

Submit KYC using only one nationality. It is difficult to change once submitted.

Users from Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan

Hong Kong and Macau resident ID cards / Taiwan ID cards are supported. The system determines this based on the region.

Overseas Identity

Passports and local driver's licenses can be used as KYC documents.

KYC Tiers

Binance has "Basic KYC", "Intermediate", and "Advanced" tiers. Basic KYC already supports most trading; Advanced (Proof of Address) requires utility bills, etc.

8. Security During KYC

1. Do Not Do This on Public WiFi

KYC uploads contain sensitive information. Home WiFi or mobile data is much safer.

2. Do Not Send IDs to Customer Service

Binance customer service will never ask you to send your ID photo in a private chat. Any "customer service" requesting you to send your ID privately is a phishing attempt.

3. Handle Temporary Files After KYC

You can delete the KYC photos from your phone's gallery (they are already on Binance's servers). Otherwise, they might be leaked if you lose your phone.

FAQ

Q1: How long does KYC take to pass? Usually 5-30 minutes. Complex cases can take 1-3 business days.

Q2: Will my assets be frozen if KYC fails? No. However, certain features (high-value withdrawals, futures trading) require KYC to be used.

Q3: Can I redo KYC if I get a new ID? Yes. Go to Account Security → Re-verify. However, there is a limit on the number of changes allowed per year.

Q4: Can I use an iPad camera for KYC? Yes. The iPad's rear camera quality is sufficient to take photos of documents. However, for the liveness check, using an iPhone is recommended (the front-facing camera's position is better).
