What to Do When Binance Registration Says Account Already Exists? Handling Identity Theft

How to handle 'already registered' email or ID prompts during Binance registration: recover your old account, check for identity theft, and submit an appeal.

When registering, you might be told that your "email is already registered" or your "ID has already been used." This article provides the handling process. Download gateway: Binance website, mobile Binance official app, or if you don't have the iOS app, see the iOS install guide.

1. Two Scenarios

PromptMeaningAction
Email already registeredYou previously registered with this emailRecover password
ID already usedYour ID information was used for KYC on another accountIdentity theft appeal

2. Email Already Registered: Recovery Process

1. Use "Forgot Password"

Click "Forgot Password?" at the bottom of the registration page → Enter your email → Follow the email instructions to reset.

2. Not Receiving the Reset Email

  • Check your spam folder
  • Wait 5 minutes (sometimes there is a delay)
  • Try again on a different network
  • Check if you can still log into the email account itself

3. Reset 2FA Immediately After Changing Password

If you cannot remember your old 2FA:

  • Use the "Recover 2FA" process
  • Submit your identity proof
  • Wait 24-72 hours

4. Device Management Audit

Check your login history immediately after logging in. If there are unfamiliar devices, handle it following the account stolen process.

3. Email Registered But You Don't Remember at All

Possibilities:

  1. You registered before and forgot
  2. Someone else registered using your email (rare, because they need the email verification code)

Follow the "Forgot Password" process:

  • If you receive the email → You registered before
  • If you don't receive the email (but the email works normally) → Abnormal, submit a customer support ticket

4. ID Already Used

This is a more serious situation. There are two possibilities:

Possibility A: You Registered Before

  • You forgot your old email
  • You were blocked when trying to register with a different email

Handling:

  1. Find all emails you might have used
  2. Try them one by one on the Binance forgot password page
  3. Find the old account and log in again

Possibility B: Identity Theft Registration

After your identity information (ID number + photo) is leaked, the black market uses your identity to open an account for money laundering. Handling:

  1. Submit an "Identity Theft" appeal immediately in the Binance Help Center
  2. Attach a new photo of your ID + current life evidence (video selfie + handwritten current date)
  3. Wait for manual review (5-15 business days)
  4. Once approved, the unauthorized account will be frozen, and you can register again

5. Common Sources of Identity Theft

1. ID Photos Leaked from an App

You previously submitted your ID photo to an unregulated financial or shopping app.

2. Old Phones Searched

Residual ID photos in second-hand phones.

3. Phishing Websites Collection

You uploaded your ID when participating in a "Free USDT" event.

4. Data Leaks

Certain large database leak incidents include ID cards.

Defense:

  • Do not upload your ID in unnecessary scenarios
  • Wipe second-hand phones completely
  • Do not participate in obscure "welfare" events

6. Evidence for Appeal

When submitting an appeal, attach:

  1. Newly taken photos of your ID (front and back)
  2. A photo of you holding your ID
  3. A selfie video stating "I am XX, and I have never registered on Binance"
  4. A screenshot of the registration rejection
  5. Your contact information

Once complete, the manual review result usually takes about 7 days.

7. Long-Term Defense

1. Do Not Upload ID to Untrusted Platforms

Only banks, government services, and compliance-regulated platforms like Binance can accept ID documents.

2. Watermark on ID

In some scenarios, you can add a watermark to your ID ("Only for XX purpose, not for other uses"). Attackers generally won't bother using Photoshop to remove the watermark.

3. Monitor Personal Credit

If your identity is stolen, they might not only open a Binance account but also take out loans or credit cards. Check your credit regularly.

FAQ

Q1: Will the assets in the stolen account belong to me after a successful appeal? No. Assets in a stolen account are usually stolen money and will be frozen for compliance. You only regain the right to register with your own identity.

Q2: What if the appeal is rejected? Supplement materials for a second appeal. Or consider changing the region / ID type.

Q3: Should I call the police if my identity is stolen? Recommended. A police report is helpful for subsequent rights protection.

Q4: Can I register using a family member's ID? No. Borrowing an identity to register violates the real-name policy, and the risk lies entirely with the person whose identity is borrowed.
