2. ID Card KYC

Mainland China ID Card

  • 18-digit number
  • Contains a portrait
  • Capture both the national emblem side and the portrait side
  • Usually approved in 5-15 minutes

Advantages

Familiar, less prone to errors.

Notes

  • Temporary ID cards are not accepted
  • Expired ID cards are not accepted
  • Predominantly second-generation IDs; first-generation IDs are rarely seen now

3. Passport KYC

Applicable For

  • Mainland China residents traveling abroad
  • Overseas Chinese
  • International students

Steps

  • Photograph the passport information page (the page with the photo)
  • Make sure to capture the entire page clearly
  • Do not crop the edges

Notes

  • Passports usually need more than 6 months of remaining validity
  • Passports from certain countries (sanctioned nations) are not accepted

4. Taiwan / Hong Kong ID Card

Hong Kong / Macau Residents

Both Hong Kong HKID and Macau ID cards are accepted. The system automatically identifies the region after reading the number segment.

Taiwan Residents

Taiwan ID cards are accepted. Note that both the front and back sides must be photographed.

Travel Permits

Hong Kong/Macau Exit-Entry Permits and Taiwan Compatriot Permits serve only as auxiliary documents and cannot be used alone for KYC. They must be paired with an ID card.

5. Driver's Licenses and Other Documents

Driver's License

Some countries accept a driver's license (e.g., a US driver's license can act as a primary document on Binance.US). Mainland China driver's licenses cannot be used for KYC.

Residence Card

Foreigners holding a residence card in China can use it as a primary KYC document, but the success rate is lower than using a passport.

Temporary Permits

Any "temporary" or "expired" documents are strictly not accepted.

6. KYC Levels and Documents

Binance features several KYC levels:

  • Basic (Verified): 1 document + Liveness check
  • Intermediate (Verified Plus): Proof of address (utility bill / bank statement)
  • Advanced: Proof of wealth, family information

For the vast majority of users, the Basic level is sufficient. Intermediate and above are tailored for large-volume withdrawals and institutional users.

7. Can I Change My Document After KYC?

Once KYC is approved, the document information is bound to your account. Changes are extremely difficult:

  • Document lost and replaced (same identity): Can apply for a KYC re-review
  • Name change: Requires a court certificate
  • Nationality change: Requires both the new nationality document and the old nationality document

The number of changes is limited, so it is recommended to use your most stable document when submitting for the first time.

8. Security Recommendations

1. Do Not Upload Documents Over Public Networks

Use home WiFi or a 4G network. Uploading documents on coffee shop WiFi is equivalent to broadcasting your identity in plain text.

2. Do Not Store Document Photos in the Cloud

iCloud auto-backup will save your document photos to the cloud. If iCloud is breached, your identity is compromised. It is recommended to turn off photo cloud syncing or delete local copies regularly.

3. Handle Temporary Files After KYC

Delete the screenshots and photos used for KYC from your phone once you are done.

4. Beware of "Customer Support Guiding KYC"

Binance customer support will never direct message you to guide your KYC. Any such "support" is phishing, and your document will be stolen to register other accounts.

FAQ

Q1: Will using an expired ID card be rejected? Yes. You must use a document that is currently valid.

Q2: Will my document information be made public after KYC upload? No. Binance stores it encrypted per compliance requirements and does not disclose any identity information.

Q3: Can I do KYC on behalf of a family member? No. Binance KYC is strictly for the account owner. Doing so violates the terms and puts the account at high risk.

Q4: Which document should Hong Kong/Macau residents choose? The HK/Macau ID card is the most straightforward, with a passport as a backup.
