If fingerprint recognition fails after launching the Binance App, this article provides the causes and fallback solutions. Download entry: Binance official website, mobile Binance official App, and if you haven't installed the App on iOS, see the iOS installation tutorial.
1. Causes of Fingerprint Recognition Failure
| Cause | Solution |
|---|---|
| Dirty / wet finger | Wipe clean before pressing |
| Dirty sensor | Wipe with a soft cloth |
| Poor registered fingerprint quality | Re-register fingerprint |
| iOS system-level issue | Restart / Update |
| Binance App lock not enabled | Enable in the App |
2. Face ID Failure
1. Wearing a Mask
iPhone 12 and above support Face ID with a mask, which needs to be enabled manually: Settings → Face ID & Passcode → Enable Face ID with a Mask.
2. Strong / Weak Light
Direct strong sunlight and pitch-black environments can both cause failures. Change the lighting condition.
3. Angle
Face ID requires your face to be directly facing the screen. Be careful with the angle when using your phone while lying down.
4. Twins / Makeup
Significant makeup can cause recognition to fail. Face ID does not learn rapid makeup changes well.
3. Biometrics in the Binance App
Enabling
Settings → Security → App Lock → Select Face ID / Touch ID.
Disabling
If repeated recognition failures affect your usage, disable it temporarily. Change to a PIN code instead:
Settings → Security → App Lock → Select PIN Code.
A PIN is slower than biometrics, but it will 100% not "fail to recognize."
4. Biometric Failure vs. Password
After a few failed fingerprint attempts, the Binance App will ask you to enter:
- iOS: Apple ID password or screen passcode
- Android: Screen lock passcode
You can still enter the App after typing it in. Fingerprint failure does not lock the account; it only requests alternative verification.
5. Sensor Maintenance
Under-Display Fingerprint
A dirty screen or poor-quality screen protector can cause under-display fingerprint failures. Change the protector or clean the screen.
Physical Home Button
For devices with a physical button like the iPhone SE, the recognition rate drops after the button surface wears out. You can re-register your fingerprint (delete the old one and add a new one).
Side Power Button + Fingerprint
iPad mini 6 and later, as well as some iPad Air models, integrate the fingerprint sensor into the power button. Pay attention to the pressing force—pressing too hard turns off the device, while pressing too lightly fails to recognize.
6. Biometrics vs. Security
Biometrics improve convenience but are not absolutely secure:
- Under forced situations, someone can make you face your phone.
- For large assets, it is recommended that key operations still require 2FA.
Binance mandates 2FA for "highly sensitive" operations like withdrawing funds and changing passwords; even with quick biometric login enabled, this cannot be bypassed. This is a security defense built into the design.
7. Long-Term Defense
1. Re-register Fingerprints Periodically
Record a new fingerprint every year. Fingers change slightly with seasons and wear.
2. Register Multiple Fingers
Register at least one from the left hand and one from the right hand. If one hand is injured, there is a backup.
3. Backup PIN Code
A PIN code should be easy to remember but hard to guess. Birthdays and phone numbers are taboo.
4. System Updates
The biometric algorithms for iOS and Android are continuously optimized. Recognition is usually more stable after a system update.
FAQ
Q1: Will my account be locked if the fingerprint fails too many times? The App will not lock your account. However, after 5 system-level failures on iOS, the Apple ID password will be mandatorily required.
Q2: Can I skip the App lock? Yes. You can disable the App lock in the App settings, and the switch takes effect immediately.
Q3: Do I need to re-set my fingerprint when I change phones? Yes. Biometrics are device-specific.
Q4: Can dual accounts use the same fingerprint? Yes. The fingerprint is at the device level and has nothing to do with the Binance account.
