"I just changed my password, and now it says I can't withdraw for 24 hours" — this is Binance's standard protection mechanism. This article explains how it works. Download entry: Binance Official Website, for mobile Binance Official App, if you don't have the iOS App see the iOS Install Guide.
1. Operations That Trigger a 24-Hour Lock
| Operation | Lock Period |
|---|---|
| Change login password | 24 hours |
| Reset 2FA | 24 hours |
| Change anti-phishing code | 24 hours |
| Enable / disable whitelist | 24 hours |
| Change email / phone number | 72 hours |
| Account recovery | 72 hours |
2. Why Is It Designed This Way?
Imagine this scenario: an attacker gets your password and 2FA. After logging in, they want to:
- Change your password (so you can't log in).
- Disable the whitelist (to freely choose a withdrawal address).
- Withdraw immediately.
Without a cooldown: they could drain your account in minutes.
With a 24-hour cooldown: they change the password, but cannot withdraw for 24 hours. During this time, you receive emails about the changes → you contact Binance support to freeze the account → your assets are saved.
3. What You Can Do During the Lock
The lock does not affect:
- Spot / Futures trading
- Deposits
- Viewing assets
- Changing other (non-sensitive) settings
Only withdrawals + certain large internal transfers are disabled.
4. An Unbypassable Hard Rule
The 24-hour lock cannot be sped up. Even if you contact customer support, they cannot unlock it for you. This is by design.
The only exception: Emergency freezing when the account is under attack. In this case, support will freeze the entire account—all functions will stop, including login. This is stricter than a withdrawal lock but completely prevents asset theft.
5. Can You Use "Tricks" to Bypass the Lock?
Some users think, "I'll just transfer to a sub-account and withdraw from there." Binance has already closed this loophole:
- Main-to-sub account transfers are similarly restricted during the 24-hour lock.
- Sub-accounts have their own independent lock rules.
It cannot be bypassed.
6. How to Plan Ahead
1. Plan Large Withdrawals in Advance
If you plan to withdraw 1 million USDT next week, do not touch any security settings this week. This prevents running into a lock when you need to withdraw.
2. Do It All at Once
Update your password, 2FA, and whitelist all at the same time. Once the 24-hour lock passes, do not change them frequently.
3. Use Temporary Alternatives
If you really need to move funds during a lock, you can:
- Use internal sub-account transfers (if not restricted).
- Sell on the spot market and buy back later (no withdrawal needed).
- Wait for the cooldown to end.
7. Seeking Support in Emergencies
If you are currently under attack and notice account anomalies:
- Immediately submit an "Account suspected of being stolen" support ticket.
- Support will freeze the entire account (all functions stop).
- All withdrawals / trading will be halted.
- Unfreezing will require identity verification.
This is "requesting a lock actively" — which is much safer than passively waiting for 24 hours.
8. Long-Term Defense
1. Batch Important Operations
Do a "security checkup" once or twice a year: change your password, rotate 2FA, and update your anti-phishing code. Leave them alone at all other times.
2. Monitor Change Emails
Binance sends an email for any security setting change. If it has your correct anti-phishing code → you made the change; if it has no code or the wrong code → it's a phishing attempt or an attack.
3. Cold Wallet Planning
Assets in a cold wallet are not affected when your account is locked. Important long-term holdings should be stored in a cold wallet.
